Repairs, servicing and quotes, answered in German

The agent speaks German with Sie, books repairs and servicing from your calendar, and names no prices.

The agent asks what is wrong and whether a code shows. It writes both down for the technician and gives no repair advice.

What German callers and German law expect

These notes cover callers in Germany: German criminal law on recording, the EU rules on data and AI notices, and how the voice reads numbers.

Germany

Section 201 of the criminal code makes recording the non-public spoken word without authorization an offence. An agent can't switch recording off for one caller. It has one agent-wide setting that stops storing transcripts, recordings and caller numbers, for a line where you'd rather keep no record at all.

StGB, section 201

European Union

When Lukas takes an address and a phone number, GDPR article 13 sets out what the caller is told about that data. Article 50 of the AI Act applies from August 2, 2026 and deals with disclosing an AI. The greeting does that with 'ein KI-Assistent' in its first sentence.

GDPR, article 13; AI Act, article 50

Voices

The agent uses formal Sie unless you say otherwise. Listen to street names, house numbers and error codes in your own script, because German reads numbers in its own order.

German voices and recordings

This section is not legal advice, and German law applies differently from one business to the next. Have counsel confirm your recording and data notice.

Natural turn-taking

Your choice of LLM and tools

Pick the LLM that is best suited for your agent's job, and give it tools to take action.

A voice that fits your brand

Pick from a library of natural, expressive voices so every call sounds like your company.

Check that every ticket has an address and a code

Cartesia reads each finished call for an address, the fault and any error code. When one is missing, the result is false and the office has the recording to work from.

German call center FAQs

What is an AI German call center?

Software that answers your company's phone in German with an AI agent where a call center would put staff. For this heating and plumbing firm, the agent writes down the fault, the address and any error code, then books a visit. Businesses set it up themselves; it is not a call center vacancy.

How much does an AI German call center cost?

The rate is $0.03/min, plus telephony and LLM usage, billed in US dollars whatever the call language. See pricing.

Can it switch between German and English?

German and English are both covered by language detection, the Beta setting that lets one agent follow a caller from one language to the other. With it on, the agent runs on a different speech recognition model than Ink-2. Try it with your own callers first.

Which language does the sample line use?

German only. The sample line holds one language per call. Moving between German and English is a job for language detection (Beta), which uses another speech model, so test that on an agent you build.

Does it use Sie or du?

Whichever you write in the instructions. For a trades business, Sie is the usual choice, and the agent keeps to it for the whole call.

Is it cheaper than an outsourced German-speaking call center?

That depends on how many calls you get, because the two bill differently. An outsourced center charges for the German-speaking staff it puts on your line, usually per agent or per hour, and only its quote tells you the figure. Cartesia charges $0.03 for each minute the agent is on a call, plus telephony and LLM usage. Lukas takes faults, error codes, service bookings and quote requests. The gas emergency transfer, the quote itself and any repair advice stay with your people.

Can it give prices on the phone?

Only if you give it a tool that returns them. This setup names no prices and passes quote requests to the office, because a heating quote usually needs a site visit.

How does it get into our calendar?

A webhook to your scheduling or field-service software, which a developer connects once. The agent reads free windows and books through it. Cartesia doesn't ship connectors for specific trade software.

What happens with a gas emergency?

Lukas can't dispatch the fire service. A caller who smells gas hears an instruction to leave the building and call 112, and the agent then transfers them to your technician on call.
